Mary 'MaMa' Lesney
Mary C. "MaMa" Lesney, 94, of Mount Chestnut went to be with her Lord at 8:57 p.m. Sunday at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Pittsburgh on July 12, 1913, she was the daughter of Michael and Anastasia Wuryn Chopic.
She attended Homeacre School and came to live on the family farm at the age of 18, when she married her husband, Martin Lesney, on June 26, 1932. She remained active there until three months ago when her health began to fail.
She was known for her wonderful cooking, especially for her soups and pies. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life, and she was known to everyone simply as "MaMa."
She was a lifelong member of the SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lyndora.
Surviving are five sons, John (Marian) Lesney of Butler, Carl Lesney of Harrisburg, and Eugene Lesney, Amil Lesney and Stephen (Paula) Lesney Sr., all of Mount Chesnut; four daughters, Irene (Carl) Divers and Mary (Keith) McCarthy, both of Butler; Antoinette (Wayne) Kennedy of Mars and Barbara Lesney of Mount Chestnut; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Nov. 24, 1974; two sisters, one of whom was her infant twin; and three brothers.
<B>LESNEY</B> — Friends of Mary C. "MaMa" Lesney, who died Sunday, March 2, 2008, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 21 Evergreen Drive, Lyndora. The Rev. Paisius McGrath, pastor, will officiate.
