Mary Ann Todorich Smith, 74, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Mercer, died Tuesday at Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care in Florida after a long illness.

Born in Bradys Bend, Feb. 28, 1932, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Pawkovich Todorich.

She retired in 1994 as a teacher at the Mercer Elementary School after 27½ years. She previously taught in Rimersburg for 7½; years.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Sarasota, Fla. She was a former active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Mercer, where she was former president of the Altar Rosary Society.

Surviving are her husband, James Melvin Smith Sr., whom she married March 6, 1953; two sons, James M. Smith of Sharpsburg, Ga., and Jerry Mark Smith of Bradenton, and three grandsons.

She also is survived by four sisters, Amelia Kopka of Beaver Falls, Rose Vayansky of Donora, Barbara Todorich of Pittsburgh and Dorothy Smith of Atlanta, Texas, and a brother, Joseph Todorich of East Brady.

She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.

Pitt St., Mercer.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Mercer, with the Rev. James Kennelley, officiating.Burial will be at the St. Mary Cemetery, Bradys Bend.
