McCandless

Edna Viola McCandless, 98, of Chicora Road died at 12:50 a.m. today at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1909, in Butler, she was the daughter of Harry and Phoebe Reges Watterson.

Mrs. McCandless was a tailor/seamstress for Fisher's Cleaners for nearly 50 years, working there until the business was destroyed by a fire. She also was employed at the Bantam Jeep plant during World War II and the Spaide shirt factory following the war. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McCandless was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Raymond McCandless, on Jan. 21, 1963.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Kriess and her husband, Larry, of Butler; a son, Eugene Clayton McCandless and his wife, Patricia, of Waldorf, Md.; a granddaughter, Tammy Codispot of Butler; four grandsons, Eugene Clayton McCandless Jr. of Faulkner, Md., John Holt Jr. of Chicora, Chad Holt of Butler, and Dirk Holt of Prospect; 12 great-grandchildren, Taylor McCandless, Kallie McCandless, Ashlee Codispot, Allison Codispot, Andrew Codispot, Annie Codispot, Dustin Holt, Autumn Holt, Clayton Holt, Aaron Holt, Amelia Holt, and Amanda Holt; and by several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her constant companion "Pandora."

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McCandless was also preceded in death by a son and daughter in-law and four grandchildren, who all were lost in a car accident. Also preceding in death were four sisters and two brothers.

<B>MCCANDLESS</B>— Friends of Edna Viola McCandless, who died Friday, March 2, 2007, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St.Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating.Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
