Administrators for personal care homes can train at BC3
BUTLER TWP — Personal care home administrators can meet training requirements with a course at Butler County Community College.
The college plans to offer courses that allow administrators at personal care homes to get certified for the first time and to meet the continuing education hours.
Many smaller locations that previously provided the certification courses don't have the space to meet the new requirements, said Scott Campbell, director of Professional Education and Certificate Programs at the college.
State regulations changed the number of hours personal care home administrators must complete for certification to 100 hours and the number of annual continuing education hours to 24.
Some college faculty taught part of the program when it was at the Butler YWCA. The course, held on the BC3 campus, will be taught by a mix of faculty and professionals, Campbell said.
Personal care home administrators run private facilities for individuals who need a moderate amount of care. Campbell said individuals in personal care homes would need help with meals but would not be bedridden, for example.
The classes begin in February, pending state certification. Campbell said interest in the program is high.
