Dawson Cook leads Moniteau baseball in blowout; Knoch softball’s Kaila Purcell keeps Indiana in check: Roundup

Dawson Cook had a three-hit, three-RBI day as Moniteau’s baseball team downed Cranberry Area 12-1 Friday. Kayne Scott added a pair of base knocks and another three runs driven in for the Warriors.

Ian Ross and Weston Cook combined to allow five hits in the Moniteau victory. The Warriors welcome Redbank Valley on Monday.

Slippery Rock 3, Mercer 1 — Bryce Covert had a pair of RBIs for the Rockets. They got 6.1 innings out of Isaac McCandless, who struck out 11 and walked two.

Karns City 14, Clarion-Limestone 2 — Cole Johnston banged out four hits and pushed five across in the Gremlins’ six-inning triumph. Johnston came within a homer of hitting for the cycle.

Union/A-C Valley 12, Johnsonburg 1 — The Falcon Knights’ 1-2-3 hitters — Trent Fleming, Caden Burns and Connor Langdon — combined for six hits, three RBIs and four walks in the five-inning win.

Softball

Abby Kalkowski and Neve Miller had three hits apiece and collaborated for seven RBIs in Seneca Valley’s 12-2 win over WPIAL section rival North Allegheny.

Kalkowski pitched all five innings, striking out five.

Knoch 4, Indiana 2 — Alena Tekely had two hits and walked twice, while Marlee Fraser collected a pair of RBIs for the Knights.

Kaila Purcell went the distance in the circle, allowing two hits.

Cranberry Area 9, Karns City 7 — Addison Fox had three hits, while Addison Burrows, Nicole Huff and Jessica Rodgers each had two. The Gremlins’ 12 knocks weren’t enough, however.

Hampton 9, North Catholic 6 — Addy Gray had two hits — including a double — and two RBIs for the Trojanettes.

Pine-Richland 8, Butler 1 — Kyra Olivares, Kaylin Garbinski and Alaina Garbinski all had multi-hit days, but the Golden Tornado managed just one run.
