Sean McCarty, Seneca Valley’s deputy superintendent for secondary education, received the 2026 Distinguished PreK-12 Educator Award from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education.

He was presented the award at a ceremony April 15 at the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his master’s and doctorate.

The Distinguished PreK-12 Educator Award recognized McCarty for his outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and administration throughout his career, according to information released by the Seneca Valley School District.

“While my time at Pitt helped shape my path, this achievement is a reflection of the incredible colleagues I’ve had the privilege to work alongside at Seneca Valley,” McCarty said in a news release. “Their support, collaboration and shared commitment to our students have played a significant role in any success I’ve experienced.”

The district credits McCarty for playing a key role in initiatives such as helping lead the design and development of Ehrman Crest Elementary/Middle School, expanding elementary world language programming and introducing the Creativity, Innovation & Research Center.

“Dr. McCarty is a visionary leader who continually looks for ways to improve educational experiences for students and staff,” Tracy Vitale, district superintendent, said. “His work in developing innovative programs and learning environments has helped position Seneca Valley as a model for schools across Pennsylvania and the nation.”
