Sad that rules come before family

I feel so badly for Joyce C. Zanella, Donegal Township (in her letter to the editor on April 7), for not being able to say goodbye to her husband at Butler Memorial Hospital.

I received the same treatment. My son, Bruce, 54, had a stroke and was dying at BMH.

I went to the fifth-floor intensive care unit. As I got there, a sign noted that visiting hours were over. I rang the phone. A woman came. I told her I was Bruce Marburger’s mother, and he was dying, and I asked to see him for five minutes. She said no, and that his daughter visited today, and I was told that only one person can see him per day. I got so angry. That was March 23, and Bruce died on March 24.

Five minutes was all I asked. I was so angry that, when I got home, I was experiencing chest pains. I underwent tests for a heart attack!

I was admitted to the hospital later and got treated well.

But it is sad how rules come before death and family.

Bonnie Marburger,

Connoquenessing Township
