Positive events in Harrisville

I would like to share some recent positives in our town of Harrisville.

First, we just has our annual Easter egg hunt at our community park. The fine folks of Turner Insurance Agency sponsored the event, as well as putting together many thousand Easter eggs! Also helping out was our local Sheetz, donating many boxes of doughnuts, which were a treat for all.

Second, I want to give a shoutout to three area churches. Harmony Church does events on a regular basis, by hosting soup suppers for our residents and on occasion a jazz concert. Harrisville Methodist is known for a couple of Saturdays a month doing “Meatball Madness,” which is meatball sandwich carryouts, along with salads and beverages. In our neighboring village of Forestville, their Methodist Church makes and sells quarts of homemade soups. They also sell ready-to-eat spaghetti dinners during the summer months.

One more positive in connection with the egg hunt was Councilwoman Mary Ann Hughes getting together with staff and residents of Autumn Grove Care Center, in putting together several thousand eggs for the hunt.

One last recent positive, I’m hoping to partner with Slippery Rock University and our local satellite Rotary Club of Slippery Rock in building our adaptive playground for all ages. If it works, it may be on what used to be a corner of the Har-Mer Elementary School.

I’m happy to have been able to pass on some positives of the Harrisville Borough for a change, which makes me feel so good as the mayor of the borough!

Gary R. Hughes, Harrisville mayor
