Big 2nd inning sparks KC victory

Karns City scored seven runs in the second inning and cruised to a 12-4 softball victory over Keystone on Thursday.

Lyrik Reed pitched the final four innings, striking out seven. She also had a triple and two singles, scoring two runs. Addison Burrrows had a single and three RBI for the Gremlins.

Nicole Taylor had two singles and two RBI, Emily Sherman two singles, Jada Polczynski a triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Autumn Taylor contributed a double and drove in a pair.

Boys Tennis

Butler started all of its seniors in a 4-1 win over Knoch, with Ben Busler and James Walter winning at No. 1 and 2 singles.

Singles: Ben Busler (B) def. Quinlin Howison, 6-4, 6-0; James Walter (B) def. Mason Hoffman, 6-2, 6-4; Ethan Lauer (K) def. Kelley Schaukowitsch, Legend Wilkinson, 6-3, 3-6 (2-7)

Doubles: Wyatt Morgus/Carson Stewart (B) by forfeitt; Jackson Dryden/Lakin Whisinnand (B) by forfeit

North Catholic 4, Butler 1 — Cal Johnson won at No. 1 singles for the Planets’ lone victory.

Boys Volleyball

Coleton Welter tallied eight kills and nine digs for Butler, but the Golden Tornado dropped a 3-0 decision at Shaler. Scores were 25-14, 25-16, 25-14.

Mason McCall had nine assists for Butler (7-5, 5-4), which plays in the Hempfield Tournament on Saturday.

Mars 3, Armstrong 0 — Mars swept a match from Armstrong. Scores were 25-17, 25-17, 25-18.

Seneca Valley 3, Pine-Richland 0 — The Raiders swept this match. No other details were provided.
