Old dog, good dog

As a volunteer dog walker at the Butler County Humane Society, I find it sad that often we have absolutely wonderful older dogs that have a difficult time being adopted.

These dogs generally are housebroken, have many commands, are not demanding like younger dogs and truly appreciate their new homes and families. Don’t pass on a dog because it is a middle aged or older dog. You may find great rewards in sharing their golden years. Giving an older dog a home, love and a sense of family is a great gift not only to the dog but to its new family.

We often get great feedback on our senior animals. Just because there is a bit of gray in the muzzle doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of love and play still in the dog.

In today’s society an older dog that only requires short walks and brief play may be a far better choice than a young and energetic dog that needs and demands far more attention and training.

If you can’t adopt, please help with any other support you can offer. Volunteers are always needed and donations always appreciated.
