In response to Trish Lindsay’s letter of May 8 regarding the controller’s race: The controller does not manage our tax dollars, that is the function of the county commissioners. The county controller’s job is to supervise the fiscal affairs of the county. The controller has the authority to refuse any fiscal transaction which is, by law, subject to his or her supervision or control where it appears the transaction is not authorized and may be fraudulent.

Lindsay seemed to suggest Holland’s youth and ambition is of concern for the office that he is seeking. Holland’s contemporary education and work experience combined with his youthfulness, energy and drive do merit being classified as ambitious — and is a compliment to the candidate. Holland is a driven and dedicated conservative who will help move county government forward.
