5 technical field students receive $1,000 scholarships
Five recipients of $1,000 scholarships from Amerikohl Mining were announced by The Golden Tornado Scholastic Foundation.
The awardees are graduates from Butler High School's College Tech Prep program who are pursuing careers in a technical field.
The recipients are:
• Katlyn Monday, a freshman at West Penn Hospital School of Nursing, majoring in nursing. Katlyn is the daughter of Chris and Barb Monday of Butler.
• Jack Ferrari, a freshman at Butler County Community College, majoring in robotics technology. Jack is the son of Jack and Elizabeth Ferrari of Butler.
• Brianna Ivory, a freshman at Veterinary Technician Institute, majoring in veterinary technician. Brianna is the daughter of Mary Ivory of Butler.
• Shane Schultheis, a freshman at BC3, majoring in computer aided machining technology. Shane is the son of Eric and Tammy Schultheis of Renfrew.
• Nicholas Westerman, a freshman at Indiana (Pa.) University, majoring in electro-optics. Nicholas is the son of Eric and Linda Westerman of Butler.
The Amerikohl Technical Scholarship was established through the foundation for graduates of Butler High School who have completed the first semester of a freshman year at a college or technical school and who are pursuing a technical career. The review committee considers academic merit, need and a student essay in the selection process.
This is the third year of the scholarship. It has expanded from one to five scholarships.
