The Pennsylvania State Police Butler barracks in Butler Township was partially evacuated Monday afternoon after smoke was reported in the second floor of the building. Authorities are blaming a faulty light ballast for the smoke at 200 Barracks Road. “There was an odor of smoke and the light ballast failed,” said Butler Fire Chief Chris Switala. “We just investigated it and confirmed with a thermal image scan that it was a light bulb outlet that went out, causing the smoke.” A few officers remained in the building during the evacuation to make sure the barracks were manned, state police said. Emergency crews from Butler responded to the call. They were sent back into service around 12:30 p.m.
