A Zelienople man was sentenced to probation in Butler County Court on Thursday, after being charged with selling marijuana to a police informant.

William C. Bennett, 54, was sentenced to 30 months probation, with three days credit for time served, and ordered to pay court costs and a $500 fine by Judge William Shaffer.

Bennett pleaded guilty to felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance on Aug. 16.

Bennett was initially charged with four felony drug delivery counts, two felony counts of criminal use of a communications device and two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance after an incident on Feb. 24, 2016.

The Butler County Drug Task Force filed the charges after an investigation where Bennett sold an ounce of marijuana for $375 to a confidential informant in the Zelienople area.

The sale, with officers watching, was made outside Bennett's home on South Main Street. A separate one-ounce deal for $375 was made March 11, again in a parking lot near Bennett's apartment, documents said.
