Mars mayor open to more Breakneck information

3 projects slated for watershed

MARS — Mayor Gregg Hartung told borough council Monday night that he's interested in learning more about future Breakneck Creek watershed projects.

“(We need) to sit down and talk about all the issues with Breakneck,” Hartung said.

Hartung said Evans City Mayor Dean Zinkhann told him that civil engineering firm Herbert, Rowland and Grubic was representing Butler County at Evans City's council meeting Monday night.

The concept of HRG's presentation was to provide members of council with information about three Breakneck projects, which cost an estimated $75,000, Hartung said. He added the county is looking to contribute to the watershed restoration through them.

“It's a small amount of money for what needs to be done,” Hartung said.

The county will use the three projects as a steppingstone, Hartung said, “toward doing something more with each of the municipalities.”

Hartung said Evans City extended an invitation to Mars to send a representative to the meeting. He said he told Zinkhann that Mars had its own council meeting Monday night, but would be interested in having HRG attend one of its meetings.

“I (wanted) to make sure that … we could invite them,” Hartung said. “That each municipality could.”

Hartung said he'd like to have HRG come to a public meeting to share information specifically about the three watershed projects with council.

The Mars mayor said he told Zinkhann to let him know how the presentation went Monday night.

“I want to make sure it's worth our while,” Hartung said. “We'll be glad to invite them.”

Hartung said Zinkhann told him someone from Evans City would get back to him about the HRG presentation.
