Newhaven Court team top fundraiser at Alzheimer's walk

Participants support the Walk to End Alzheimers Saturday at Butler Community College. More than 200 Butler County residents raised more than $33,000 to fight the disease.

More than 200 residents from Butler County joined the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimers Monday at Butler County Community College.

Participants raised more than $33,000 to support the care, support and research programs of the Alzheimer's Association.

“I am blown away by the support from the Butler community coming out and walking with us to raise awareness and funds for this devastating disease,” said Nathaniel Sofranko, Butler walk manager.

“We could not continue the work of our mission without such dedicated walkers, volunteers and sponsors,” he said.

Newhaven Court Forget Me Not's Team was the top fundraising team at this year's Walk to End Alzheimer's, raising more than $4,000.

“No matter how big or small, we are spreading awareness and raising money for a great cause,” Tracy Fencil, team captain of Newhaven Court.

“Hopefully one day the lives that were lost due to this terrible disease and families that suffered watching their loved ones slip away more and more each day has contributed to find a cure,” Fencil said.
