Matthew Collier of Chicora, a senior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been named a 2005 Florida College Student of the Year.Awardees are chosen based on campus leadership, academic excellence and financial self-reliance.At the university, Collier is the president of the Student Government, a peer mentor, a member of the Board of Trustees and a guest reporter with the Avion newspaper.Collier is also serving a two-year term as chair of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida Student Alliance.Collier and 19 other Florida college and university students were recognized during a ceremony held recently in Tallahassee, Fla.

<b>Karen Markle</b>, a biology major from Slippery Rock was among University of Pittsburgh at Bradford students to present their research and projects during annual Honors Day April 14. Markle's project was "Liverwort is not a Sandwich Meat and Rotiferd Don't Clean Your Drains: Research on an Unusual Plant-Animal Interaction" and research "The Role of Heterochrony in Evolutionary Change."The students presented posters, and gave oral presentations or display their creative and performing art projects.---<b>Stephanie Covert</b> of Chicora, a student at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, recently won the title of Best Poster Presentation during the Annual Undergraduate Student Research and Creative Accomplishment Conference.---<b>Susan Kamerer</b>, daughter of James and Barbara Kamerer of Butler, was recently inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma national freshman scholastic honor society at the University of Pittsburgh.A 2004 graduate of Butler High School, she is pursuing a degree in history.---As part of his senior project, <b>Matt Wittlinger</b>, a senior at Seneca Valley High School, recently organized and hosted a spaghetti dinner held at Mars Alliance Church.The event raised $800 benefiting the Lighthouse Foundation.---<b>Julie Schupay</b>, the daughter of Mark and Susan Schupay of Harmony, has been inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi international education honor society at Westminster College.A junior elementary education major, she is a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.---The American Legion has announced the winners of its oratorical contest held recently at Butler Post 117.The first place winner was <b>Ben Smith</b>, an eighth grader at Butler Junior High School. Smith spoke on the 16th amendment and taxes. Smith was sponsored by the American Legion Post 117 in Butler.Second place went <b>Laura Caparosa</b>, a seventh grade student at Butler Catholic School. She was sponsored by Lyndora American Legion Post 778.<b>Shara Charlier</b>, an eighth grader at Mars Middle School was the third place winner. She was sponsored by the Evans City American Legion Post 219.---<b>Robin Craig</b> of Butler has been chosen as the Portersville-Prospect Rotary Club student of the month for April. She is the daughter of James and Virginia Craig of Franklin Township.Students chosen for this designation will be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship awarded in May.---<b>Abbey Rogers</b>, the daughter of Skip and Julie Rogers and a senior at Seneca Valley High School, has accepted a congressional appointment to the Air Force Academy.She will begin basic cadet training on July 1.---<b>Matthew Scarborough</b> of Evans City has been recognized as a member of the Norwich University Corps of Cadets.---<b>Brandi Leslie</b>, daughter of Kenneth Leslie Jr. of Butler and Terri Leslie of Sarver, has been inducted in the Chi Lamda Tau honorary leadership society at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
