Jaime Lachesky, daughter of Barbara Lachesky of Center Township and Jim Lachesky of Butler, has been accepted into the Honors College at Kent State University for the fall 2006 term.A senior at Butler High School, she plans to major in zoology.At the high school, Lachesky is a member of the Golden Tornado Marching Band and participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Honors Band, District 5 Band, and the Region 1 Band festivals. She was also named to Who's Who Among American High School Students for two years.———

Thirty-six Westminster College students were recently inducted into the Lambda Sigma honor society.Local inductees include <B>Megan Hoffman </B>and <B>Jenna Rosenbauer</B>, both of Butler;<B>Jennifer Byers </B>of Zelienople; and <B>Rachel Burkot </B>and <B>Erin Tarpey</B>, both of Cranberry Township.———

<B>Alana Byrum</B> of Cranberry Township, a student at Vincentian Academy, was among several students in Catholic high schools to be awarded the St. Timothy Award by the Diocese of Pittsburgh.Honored during recent prayer service at Duquesne University, the students were chosen based on contributions to their churches, families and communities.———

<B>Ryan Koch</B>, a freshman at Northwood University, was recently named the recipient of a Heart and Soul Award by Michigan Campus Compact, an organization promoting community involvement by students in Michigan colleges.He is the son of Kent and Anne Koch of Harmony.———

Several local students have been accepted to the eight Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence for 2006.Students accepted to the school for the arts, to be held at Mercyhurst College, include <B>Kristopher Barkus </B>of the Butler School District; <B>Laura Buchanan </B>and <B>Bailie Simpson </B>of the Grove City Area School District; and <B>Marin Ryan </B>of the Seneca Valley School District.Grove City students <B>Zachary Bombatch </B>and <B>Angela Miller </B>were accepted to the global entrepreneurship program to be held at Lehigh University.Students participating in the school for health care include <B>Heather Lynn </B>of the South Butler County School District and <B>Kathryn Beckwith </B>of the Mars School District.Also accepted from Seneca Valley are <B>Rachele McFarland</B>, who will attend the school for international studies, and <B>Shannon Armstrong</B>, who was accepted to both the schools for the sciences and teaching.———

<B>Christine Fisher</B> has been named to the dean's list at Edinboro University for the fall semester.———

The following students were named winners during the recent Drug Awareness Poster contest held by the Butler Lions Club in conjunction with the Pennsylvania District 14N Lions Clubs:<B>Fallon Uranker</B>, first place<B>Josh Kauffman</B>, second place<B>Taryn Zeigler</B>, third placeAll three winners attend Meridian Elementary School.Their works were entered into the district competition, where Kauffman's poster took third place.———

Three Seneca Valley Middle School students were recently named winners in The Alliance Against Drugs Seventh Grade Poster Contest.<B>Alex Batista</B>, <B>Wally Kukla </B>and <B>George DeAugustino </B>were recognized for their efforts by Stephen Zappala, Allegheny County District Attorney, at a recent awards luncheon.——

<B>Michael Krysinski</B>, son of Dale and Susan Krysinski of Zelienople, has received an Air Force ROTC college scholarship.A senior at Seneca Valley High School, he will receive a scholarship covering full college or university tuition, provide textbook allowance and pays most laboratory or incidental fees. In addition, a $250 tax-free monthly stipend is paid to recipients during the academic year.Upon graduation from college and completion of the ROTC scholarship program, Krysinski will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.
