$800K Cash 5 winner sold at Seven Fields
SEVEN FIELDS — “Do you play the lottery? Did you play the Cash 5 Friday?”
Clerk Mary Ann Curtis posed these questions Monday to customers at the GetGo store in front of the Giant Eagle on Seven Fields Boulevard.
She was asking because the Pennsylvania Lottery announced Monday morning that a Cash 5 ticket worth $800,000 before taxes was sold Friday at the store.
The winning ticket matched all five balls in the daily drawing. A winner had yet to claim the jackpot or be identified as of Monday afternoon.
Curtis said she hopes the winner is one of the store's regular customers.
“If I can't win, I'd love to know somebody who did,” she said. “This is going to be fun.”
Employees said there are a lot of customers who come in first thing in the morning to get tickets.
“All we sell at 8 a.m. is coffee and lottery tickets,” said clerk Calvin Holcomb.
Cash 5 is one of the most popular games.
“We sell a lot of Cash 5, MegaMillions and Powerball. The $1 tickets are a draw,” he said.
Holcomb said he was working Friday, which means he may have sold the winner.
“Knowing someone won it here, it gives you some hope. It makes the reality of winning seem a little closer,” he said.
For selling the ticket, Giant Eagle will receive a $5,000 bonus.
Giant Eagle spokesman Dick Roberts said the company offers lottery tickets at most of its stores.
“We are thrilled for the winning customer,” he said.
To play Cash 5, players select five numbers between 1 and 43. Five balls are drawn at 6:59 p.m. each day. Players who match at least two numbers also win a prize.
The winning numbers Friday were 03-04-19-35-42. There were 63,700 other winning tickets Friday, but only one won the jackpot.
The proceeds from the sale of state lottery tickets go to programs to help older residents.
Since 1972, lottery sales have contributed $25.8 billion for property tax and rent rebates, transportation, care services, prescription assistance, senior centers and meals programs, according to the lottery.
The winner has one year to turn in the winning ticket and claim the prize. The holder of the winning ticket should sign the back of it and call 717-702-8146 to file a claim.
