SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Township officials are preparing to review options regarding a small concrete bridge after a discussion with the county found it to be the township’s responsibility.

At a Slippery Rock Township supervisors meeting Monday afternoon, Sept. 28, board Chairman Paul Dickey said he and township engineer Dave Neill, from The EADS Group, are planning to take a look at the bridge Thursday.

“There’s a concrete poured bridge that they widened,” he said. “They put two widening strips on both sides, but those strips on the side are failing.”

He said he called Kevin Gray, the county’s bridge and fleet manager, to make sure it was the township’s responsibility rather than the county’s. The conversation pointed out to township officials only four bridges in the municipality meet the county’s criteria.

“I think from end to end it’s anything 21 feet or over,” township secretary Tina Barkley said regarding when a bridge becomes the county’s responsibility.

Supervisors expect to discuss next steps regarding the bridge at a future township meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12.
