Alvin J. Tait, 83, of East Metzgar Avenue died at 2:26 a.m. Tuesday at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Born July 2, 1924, in Lewisville, Ohio, he was the son of Ralph "RB" and Edna M. O'Donnell.

He was a retired electronics technician superintendent at T.W. Phillips Oil and Gas Co. for 42 years. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago.

He attended First United Methodist Church.

He served in the Coast Guard during World War II in Europe and Japan. He was a member of Butler Lodge 272 F&AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, and a former elder and deacon at St. Paul United Church of Christ.

He was an avid outdoorsman, gardener, traveler and storyteller.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beryl Christie Tait, whom he married March 28, 1993; three daughters, Pamela L. Tait of Butler, Sue Lancaster and her husband, Hayden, of Vienna, W.V., and Sallie Benjamin and her husband, Tom, of Butler; four grandchildren, David, Elise, Adam and Ashley Gail; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice A. Sweeney Tait, who died Aug. 22, 1991; a brother, Robert Tait; and a great-grandson, Ian.

<B>TAIT</B>— Friends of Alvin J. Tait, who died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St.Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ralph Link, retired pastor, officiating.Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park.
