KC students win Challenge

Karns City — The Challenge Program, the Chicora Medical Center and Sugar Creek Rest have awarded $250 each to eight Karns City High School juniors and seniors based on four categories.

The Challenge Program kick-off assembly took place Sept. 30 at the high school. Awards are decided in the spring of the previous year and graduating seniors are awarded at that time.

For last years’ achievements, Carly Potchak and Lacee Scheerbaum were given the academic excellence awards for academic achievement. The attendance awards for fewest days absent were given to Renae Anderson and Emily Hankinson.

Allyson Olkowski and Lynzy Groves received the community service award for completing the most hours of service outside of school.

The academic improvement awards were given to Alan Davis and Cody Jones.

All sophomore, junior and senior students are eligible and are automatically enrolled into the Challenge Program.

Melissa Furmin of the Challenge Program and Susie Tack-Beardsley, chief administrative officer for both Sugar Creek Rest and the Chicora Medical Center, presented the awards to the students.

The Challenge Program was founded by Johnstown businessman Daniel Perkins, owner of a group of technology companies, who wanted to to help students perform better in school.
