Gridders highlighted by league

NC's Prentice, Benson, Friel; Freeport's Lane, Selinger awarded

North Catholic and Freeport dominated the recently-released Allegheny Seven Conference postseason football awards.

North Catholic quarterback Joey Prentice was named the league’s Most Valuable Offensive Player. He threw for 1,240 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 551 yards and 11 scores.

Trojans 6-foot-4 senior linebacker Mathias Benson was named Most Valuable Defensive Player, teammate Jack Friel the Most Valuable Offensive Lineman.

Freeport sophomore Ben Lane was named the league’s All -Purpose Offensive Player of the Year. He passed for 769 yards and seven touchdowns, ran for 348 and six TDs, caught five passes for 99 yards and a score and averaged 40.6 yards on five kick returns.

The Yellowjackets’ Sebastian Selinger was named Most Valuable Defensive Lineman.

Also making all-conference first team for North Catholic were wide receiver Nick Maher, guard Andrew Stevens, kicker Ethan Marsico and defensive end Tyler Primrose.

Freeport tight end Cole Charlton also made first team.

Second team selections included halfback Kyle Tipinski and defensive back Isaiah Jackson of North Catholic, guard Elijah Freeman of Freeport.
