2 go to hospital after car hits pole at SRU

A car driven by a woman leaving Slippery Rock University Monday night ran into a utility pole near the university's main entrance on Keister Road, according to emergency responders.

Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team Chief Ryan Hanchosky said the driver was turning from Campus Drive onto Kiester Road at around 8:20 p.m. in a Chevy Malibu, when her vehicle hit a pole head-on.

The impact forced the driver's head to hit the windshield, and the driver and one passenger were taken by ambulance to Grove City Medical Center for evaluation, according to Hanchosky.

The car sustained front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

Hanchosky said the scene was cleared within 20 minutes of his crew's arrival. Traffic on the road was restricted to one lane during the time.

Slippery Rock University Police also responded to the accident.
