Lucia Leyland’s 2 goals power Butler soccer’s win; Freeport, Union, Knoch volleyball victorious: Roundup
Lucia Leyland scored twice, while Dakota Viehmann and Molly Rudish also found the net in Butler girls soccer’s 4-0 win over Taylor Allderdice on Monday night.
The Golden Tornado’s Rudish and Kara Lubinsky each contributed an assist.
Mars 3, Blackhawk 0 — Jade Breese scored two of the Planets’ goals, with HB Wolski scoring the other. Ciara Spaun recorded the shutout in goal, and Mackenzie Powell, Miley Gratton and Carly McKenna each had assists.
Union rebounded from a loss in the first set and left Clearfield County with a 3-1 victory over host Curwensville. The win was earned by scores of 22-25, 27-25, 25-12, 25-17.
Kolstin Wetzel contributed six kills for the Damsels, Lilly Hayden had 29 digs, Emma Kifer three aces, three kills and five assists.
Freeport 3, Armstrong 0 — Emily Boylan paced the Yellowjackets attack with 10 kills while Evie Tola, Lauren Hellgren and Lucy Majersky combined for 14 more.
Caylee Zembrzuski tallied 22 assists and Nina Pagano nine aces and 28 digs for Freeport (5-0, 2-0).
Knoch 3, Kiski Area 1 — Alyssa Patterson knocked down 13 kills, and Maelan Bajuszik had nine plus 20 assists in the non-section win (set scores: 24-26, 25-10, 25-21, 25-20). Olivia Hawk had 32 digs for the Knights (3-2, 2-0 section)
A-C Valley 3, North Clarion 2 — Gianna Louise had 14 kills and six digs in this battle decided by set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 16-14. Lexi Altman had 26 assists and 10 aces in the comeback win.
Seneca Valley 3, Chartiers Valley 0 — No other stats were available from this win for the Raiders.
Three golfers shot par or better at Deer Trail Country Club, and Butler rolled to a 177-193 win over Central Valley. Levi McClellan led the Golden Tornado with a 3-under 32, with Karsten Lenyk and Drew Cuny carding 34 and 35, respectively.
Mars 186, Beaver 203 — Jackson Geiger’s round of 34 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course led the Planets in a comfortable victory. Three other Planets golfers broke 40: Finn McKenzie (36), Landon Mitro (37) and Casey Klinefelter (39).
Freeport 201, Highlands 236 — Jackson Kane carded a 1-over 37, at Saxon Golf Course as the Yellowjackets improved to 11-2 (8-2 section). Gavin Tola and Max Zigo shot 38 and 39, respectively.
Seneca Valley 188, New Castle 222 — Bradley Steiner led the Raiders with a 36 at Sylvan Heights Sylvan Heights Golf Course, sinking two birdies in the first four holes. Trent Gordon and Lucas Barber each had 37 for SV.
Lilly Bauer led Butler with a 53 at Kittanning Country Club as the Golden Tornado (0-11, 0-10 section) fell 219-229 to Armstrong. Mati Panchik and Alyssa Luffey each shot 55 in the loss.
Butler swept the singles matches and went on to beat Moon 4-1 at home. Cassie Busler (Singles 1), Lindsay Lipp (Singles 2) and Noel Ernst (Singles 3) all won in straight sets. Devan Christofano and Cassie Sklencar also won in straight sets in Doubles 1.
