BUFFALO TWP — The two juveniles who ran away from Summit Academy Wednesday morning were caught by police later that day, a spokesman for the facility said.

It wasn’t clear exactly when, or from where, the juveniles left the academy. Spokesman Dick Roberts said the pair left the facility in between one of the academy’s regular, 15-minute head counts, and that their absence was “almost immediately” noted by staff members.

In a report released Thursday morning, state police said the juveniles, identified as two black males, left the academy between 2 a.m. and 2:15 a.m.

The juveniles were later spotted near Lernerville Speedway near Route 356, getting into a dark-colored van or SUV, Roberts said. The state police were notified and stopped the vehicle.

The two juveniles were caught in the early afternoon, Roberts said.

He said privacy laws barred the facility from identifying the juveniles or giving out any information about them, such as their age or where they are from.

He said it was unlikely that they would return to Summit Academy.

“They’ll probably go back home and be back in the courts, and the courts will decide where we go from here,” Roberts said.
