New SR borough manager plans efficient operations
SLIPPERY ROCK — The borough's new manager gave his first report to the council at Tuesday's meeting.
Borough manager Shawn Pugh of Brady Township started March 2 in the role.
“Borough residents will have increased representation as well as professionalism,” said Borough Council President Russell Karl.
Karl said he was familiar with Pugh through his work in the Butler County court system. He said Pugh's experience in grant writing will translate well into borough management.
Pugh started as a probation officer for 16 years with the county, then served as director for the Criminal Justice Advisory Board for the past five years.
“I really loved my job,” he said. “I loved working at the county, but I thought it was time to move on to the next step and take on more responsibility.”
Pugh said he has busied himself over the past week with analyzing the way the borough is operated to find the most efficient and cost-effective way to run the borough's functions.
“I'm a hands-on person,” Pugh said. “I want to get out with the roads crew, I want to get out with the zoning officer and even the police department and actually lay my eyes on what's going on.”
Pugh is a graduate of Butler Area High School and a Slippery Rock University alumnus. He received his master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh.
