SAXONBURG — Heavy rain and a leaking roof led to a fire call Thursday morning and the evacuation of a small business in the borough, authorities said.

It turned out there was no fire at To The Limit Motorsportz on North Isabella Street, only smoke. No one was injured, but the building's electrical system sustained an estimated $20,0000 in damage during the incident, which took place around 11:15 a.m., fire officials said,

The business, an automotive performance and care center, was temporarily closed until the electrical panel could be replaced.

Saxonburg Fire Chief Chris Ballina said a roofing company “was replacing the roof and they didn't get it sealed up” before a rainstorm blew through the borough Thursday.

The roofing project began Monday. “The water came through the roof and into the power box,” Ballina said, “and shorted out the breaker panels.”

Seven employees were working at the time. They all got out and safely removed eight vehicles in and around the building.

The only damage was to the electrical service panel, Ballina said.

Abella Enterprises of Gibsonia owns the building, which houses three other business, none of which were affected.

Officials at To The Limit Motorsportz said the business would reopen once the electrical repairs are made.

JACKSON TWP — A house fire on Lutz Road was quickly put out Thursday after more than 10 trucks were called to the two-story home. No residents were at home.The fire, which started in a bedroom on the back of the second floor, quickly subsided for lack of oxygen because the doors and windows were closed, firefighters said.One unit in the multifamily house was damaged by fire, and the entire house suffered smoke damage, firefighters said. The structure did not appear to be damaged, they said.No cause was determined. The fire marshal is investigating.
