Zelienople Main St. project continues

ZELIENOPLE — Construction crews took advantage of the sunshine Monday as they performed utility work in the borough.

According to information from the borough, work included the demolition of overhead electric poles on Main Street.

Don Pepe, borough manager, said eventually old poles will be removed to make way for new street lights that will be installed later this year. He said traffic signals also will be included in the work. Pepe said utility lines are underground and all connections have been made.

Future work will include patching of concrete that is damaged during utility installation.

The work is all part of the first phase of the Main Street revitalization project, which has included new sidewalks and curbs, new benches and green spaces.

Demolition work is expected to take place through Thursday. No parking signs will be posted on the east and west sides of the 100 block of South Main Street, a portion of the 200 block of South Main Street and a portion of the 100 block of North Main Street from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily.
