EVANS CITY — Applicants are being interviewed to fill a spot on the borough council vacated this month by John McKinney.

Council will hold public interviews of the final applicants at 5 p.m. Aug. 6 at the borough office before its normally scheduled meeting.

McKinney announced his resignation from council earlier this month, citing health reasons.

Residents have until July 30 to apply for the position.

“You just have to be a resident of Evans City. You just have to live in the borough lines,” said Lee Dyer, council president. “There are no education requirements, no experience requirements, although those things will probably weigh heavily on the HR Committee’s (decision).”

Additionally, the new council member would most likely take McKinney’s place on the streets committee, so experience with streets, paving, storm water management and heavy equipment would be a plus.

Whoever is chosen will serve on council through 2018 and for most of 2109, with elections being held in November 2019 to elect the next council member.
