Edinboro University of Pennsylvania announced that
Anna Chuba and
Hilary Rign, both of Butler, are recipients of the Board of Governors Tuition Waiver for the 2008-09 academic year.The scholarship is offered annually to students who have exhibited academic excellence and who plan to be enrolled full time during each semester of the award.Chuba is the daughter of Erik and Jennifer Chuba. She is a graduate of Butler High School.Rihn is the daughter of Jeffrey and Julia Rihn. She is a graduate of Knoch High School.———

Christopher Passione of Valencia attended the joint meeting of the Ohio Region Section of the American Physics Society and the Ohio Section and the Western Pennsylvania Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers on March 28 and 29 at Youngstown State University.Nine Westminster College physics majors and three physics professors attended.———The 28th annual WISR Spelling Bee was held at the Sylvan Learning Center at the Point Plaza Feb. 23.
Keely Mohn won first place, and
Hannah Kruger won second place. Both are students at Emily Brittain Elementary School and received gift certificates for Borders Books.———A team of Grove City College students placed 68th out of 516 teams nationwide in the 68th annual Putnam Exam.A local student on the GCCteam was
Jacob Edmonds of Slippery Rock.———Several Butler High School students were selected to play in the Pittsburgh Symphony Side by Side Concert at Heinz Hall April 22.These students will play the violin:

Patrick Fitz, sophomore.
