Amanda Black was elected to a one-year term as student director at large for the Pennsylvania Society of Physician Assistants.Each year, two students serve as voting members of the PSPA Board. Black's term will run from July 1 to June 30, 2010.Black, a 2005 graduate of Butler High School, is a senior in the physician assistant program and graduated May 10 with a bachelor's degree in health science. She is scheduled to graduate next May with her master's degree in physician assistant sciences. Black is the daughter of Brenda and Gary Black of Butler.———

Faith Kearse of Saxonburg was among four Hocking College students named to the 2009 All Ohio Academic Team.Kearse has a 3.9 grade-point average and is an equine health major. She received a $100 cash scholarship. Kearse and other All Ohio team members automatically qualify for the president's list, an award bestowed on less than one percent of the student population.———

Brian Shank of Cranberry Township were honored at the 41st annual Penn State Beaver Spring Awards Banquet. The banquet celebrates a variety of student achievements throughout the academic year.———

Megan Hoffman of Butler was on the Westminster College team of students in the public relations capstone class that won the nationwide "Just Skoobit" marketing-communications campaign contest.Skoobit, an online textbook rental service, challenged students to develop a promotional campaign on their respective campuses for the chance to receive a semester of free textbook rentals. The contest provided an opportunity for students to apply classroom learning to help spread the word about Skoobit's services.Members of AJR & Partners, a public relations firm based in Miami, formed the judging committee. They cited the Westminster students' thorough campaign that included extensive research, planning, execution, and evaluation.The winning group's efforts resulted in nearly 250 Westminster students registering on Skoobit's Web site.———

Cornelius Bulman III of Gibsonia was accepted at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla.He will graduate this spring from Mars High School and will study marine biology.Bulman is the son of Neil and Francie Bulman.———

Carter Moriarty of Cranberry Township was selected to participate in the Carnegie Mellon Institute for Talented Elementary and Secondary Students summer program for academically talented students.Moriarty will attend the Explorations in Science class June 15 to 26 at Carnegie Mellon University. He is a third grade student at Evans City Elementary School and the son of Tim and Jill Moriarty.
