Man enters program in marijuana plant case

A 55-year-old Jefferson Township man entered a pretrial intervention program this week after police allegedly found four marijuana plants on his property in September.

On Monday, prosecutors recommended that Brett T. Carion be placed in Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition, a program that allows first-time non-violent offenders to submit to probation for a length of time. In Carion’s case, he will be on probation for two years. If he completes the program, his record will be cleansed.

State police said they seized two plants Sept. 5 during a warrant search at Carion’s home on the 800 block of North Pike Road in Jefferson Township.

Police also allegedly seized two more plants from a garden behind the house. And the search turned up a marijuana pipe and marijuana bud, police said.

On Sept. 24, troopers spoke to Carion during their investigation. He told them he “made a stupid mistake” and that he was “just growing the plants for someone else.”

Carion faces a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. He is out on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

If Carion violates the program — such as getting arrested for new charges — he could be removed from it, sending his case back through the system.
