A Butler man was sentenced Thursday to nearly 10 years in prison after a jury found him guilty last month of dealing drugs.

Appearing before Judge Timothy McCune, Michael L. Jackson stood quietly as Assistant District Attorney Laura Pitchford rattled off the list of 12 charges of which jurors found Jackson guilty. The list included felony delivery and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility and conspiracy to commit all of those crimes as well as misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

McCune sentenced him to nearly 10 to 19½ years in state prison followed by two years of probation.

Jackson has been in Butler County Prison since his arrest on June 28, 2018, after a raid led by the state Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics following a controlled drug buy.

As Pitchford went through the guilty verdict list, she said, “Mr. Jackson is not what you would consider a street level dealer. He has made a career of poisoning this community.”

“He's had three misconducts at the jail,” she continued. “He's made it clear he's unamenable to supervision.”

Jackson's lawyer, Brian Farrington, responded, “We'd ask this court to show some leniency.”

Farrington asked Jackson twice if he would like to make a statement. Jackson declined.
