BMH reports on COVID patient admissions
Of the 140 people admitted to Butler Memorial Hospital with COVID-19 since Feb. 1, 84% were not vaccinated and 20 have died.
In its COVID-19 update Friday, BMH also said 75% of the patients who died were not vaccinated, 15% were partially vaccinated with a dose of vaccine, and 5%, or 1 patient, was fully vaccinated.
Out of the 140 people admitted, 13.5% were partially vaccinated and 2%, or three patients, were fully vaccinated.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health said 35 new COVID-19 cases in the county and 4,188 in the state, raise the totals to 10,469 and 1,126,850, respectively, since the pandemic began.
BMH was treating 11 patients, including two in intensive care Friday, and 2,808 people were hospitalized statewide, including 571 in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is increasing, but is about 3,500 lower than it was at the peak of the pandemic in December 2020 and below what it was at the height of the spring peak in May 2020.
About 27,451 cases in the state are among health care workers.
In licensed nursing and personal care homes, 70,383 residents and 14,692 employees have COVID-19. Of the deaths in the state, 13,067 have been residents of nursing or personal care facilities.
No new deaths in the county were reported Friday, but 59 across the state bring the statewide total to 25,938.
The department also reported that 20,104 people in the county are partially vaccinated and 59,327 are fully vaccinated.
Statewide, 3,076,391 people are fully vaccinated, 1,907,180 people are partially vaccinated, and about 100,000 people are getting vaccinated every day.
The total number of vaccine doses administered was 7,788,830, including 4,983,571 first and single doses and 2,805,259 second doses.
Butler Health System said all residents ages 16 and older can now sign up for vaccinations, and should do so because the coronavirus continues to spread in the community. Appointments can be scheduled at www.butlerhealthsystem.org.
