Grove City College student debater Sebastian Anastasi of Grove City was part of a team that took two national championships recently.

GCC debaters won two national championships over the weekend of March 20 in one of the world’s premier forensic events — Pi Kappa Delta’s 2021 National Comprehensive Tournament.

Seneca Valley Senior Faith Condrick and juniors Kate Lipscomb and Nicholas Nedzesky have been announced as 2021 Recognized Carson Scholars.

These three standout students maintained high academic standards and a strong commitment to their communities and renewed their Carson Scholar status for their efforts.

“You continue to demonstrate the highest standards of academic achievement, integrity, civic and social responsibility,” said Felicia Wise, Carson Scholars Fund Scholarship director. “You should be very proud of this accomplishment and the outstanding work you are doing in your school and community.”

This year, the Carson Scholars Fund awarded their 10,000th scholarship marking an incredible 25 years of honoring high academic achievers across the nation.

Four members of Mars Area Middle School’s MathCounts Team will compete in the 2021 Pennsylvania State MathCounts Competition.

Eighth-grader Carson Mahan and seventh-graders Levi Jackson, Naveen Jayaraman and Joseph Shebek placed among the Top 5 students at the virtual 2021 MathCounts Midwestern Pennsylvania Chapter Regional Competition Feb. 25, and qualified for the state contest.

Eighth-graders Derek Piatek and seventh-graders Jaxon Hittle and Andersen Palmer also competed in the initial rounds of the 2021 MathCounts competition.

All MathCounts competitions were held via the Art of Problem Solving website. For more information, visit www.mathcounts.org.
