County schools provide meals during closure

On Tuesday, multiple school districts countywide began pick-up meal programs for students despite schools being closed for two weeks.

Butler, Karns City, Moniteau, Mars, Seneca Valley and South Butler school districts all have some form of meal program. All programs provide free meals for children under the age of 18, and per USDA regulations, children must be present for meals to be provided. Links are available on district websites to online forms that register students for the programs.

Moniteau School District will distribute meals 11 a.m. to noon weekdays at Dassa McKinney Elementary School. The meals are pre-packaged, and parents are asked to stay in their vehicles as they drive through the student drop-off and pick-up lane. Meals are on a first-come, first- serve basis. Mars School District is distributing breakfast and lunch. Meals for this week were distributed on Tuesday. For next week meals may be picked up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday at Mars Area High School's cafeteria entrance. If parents have any questions or are unable to pick up meals, special arrangements may be made by contacting the district's food service department at 724-625-1988.Seneca Valley School District students who are eligible for free and reduced meals may obtain breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday during the school closure. The food service staff will provide pre-packaged meals from 10 a.m. to noon or 4 to 6 p.m. at Connoquenessing Valley Elementary, Evans City Elementary/Evans City Middle School, Haine Elementary/Middle School, Rowan Elementary or the Seneca Valley Intermediate High School. Parents who are unemployed, without income or whose income status has changed may be eligible for meals through the National School Lunch Program.

Slippery Rock Area School District is distributing meals to all students who qualify for free or reduced meals. The meal will be a sack lunch. Distribution takes place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays at Moraine Elementary School and Slippery Rock Middle School. Meals can be picked up curbside. Starting next week, students will receive two-days worth of food on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.South Butler County School District will hand out meals on Thursday at the Knoch High School gym and will deliver them as needed.
