Holiday fracas leads to arrest

CRANBERRY TWP — A township woman stands accused of kicking and spitting at police officers and medical personnel who were checking on her welfare.

According to court records, the incident began at a Dec. 21 family holiday party, when Mary Frances Omara, 44, got into a fight with some relatives. Omara apparently returned to her 669 Huntington Drive home and relatives asked Cranberry Township police to check on the welfare of Omara, who has two children.

Court records say Omara, when contacted by police, yelled and spit at the officers. The officers placed the barefoot defendant in a patrol car, where she kicked one window hard enough to shatter it and then knocked the glass frame out of the other window.

Cranberry Ambulance Service then was called to transport Omara to Butler Memorial Hospital. The defendant spit on and kicked the ambulance personnel and then the doctor and nurse who attempted to treat her in the emergency room.

Omara is charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and one count each of resisting arrest, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 17 at the office of District Judge David Kovach.

The defendant is free, having posted $3,000 bail.
