SAXONBURG — Schools in the South Butler School District will get a little greener this spring.
The school board Monday approved a recycling program with Resolute Forest Products.
All four buildings, Knoch High, Knoch Middle, South Butler Intermediate Elementary and South Butler Primary, will have recycling bins for student and faculty use in the next few months. The schools also will be part of a recycling rewards program.
The recycling program costs $2,670 per year, but district spokesman Jason Davidek said it is only a small cost difference from the current cost of Dumpsters. Also, the extra cost will likely be offset by the rewards program since the district will get $20 per ton for corrugated boxes, water bottles and metal cans.
The district previously did not have a recycling program.
