Board seeks input on superintendent

BUTLER TWP — Butler School Board members want to know what qualities the community wants to see in the district’s next superintendent, who will be hired this spring.

An online survey is available for Butler residents to answer on the school district website: http://www.basdk12.org/superintendent.

Residents who take the survey are asked to rank the top 10 of 25 qualities listed that they would like to see in the next superintendent. A fill-in-the-blank area for additional comments and concerns also is provided.

“Your valuable input will help to refine the board’s application screening criteria and develop themes for questions during the multistep interview process,” said Al Vavro, chairman of the administrative search committee, in a statement on the district website. “Our hope is to have a broad base of opinions from a variety of stakeholders, so that we may confidently identify and hire the very best candidate to lead our district’s educational future.”

Butler parents and emergency contacts today will receive a call through the district telephone alert system about the survey. Survey responses will be accepted until Feb. 10.

Superintendent Michael Strutt will retire at the end of the school year. Also retiring are Carolyn Cornish, assistant superintendent, and Cathy Rodgers, business manager.

The board wants to hire a superintendent soon so that person can be involved with hiring the other two administrators.

This is the first time the district has done an outside search for the top district administrative position in 20 years. Advertising began for the positions last week.

The Mars School District did a similar community survey when it looked last year for a superintendent replacement.
