Butler County's great daily newspaper

Tom & Maura

I'd like to comment on something other than cheerleading. Last Friday my wife and I had reason to visit Grove City. I decided to use Route 8 rather than 79.

I was glad I did. The last time I came that way the new bridge or viaduct was under construction and I had to use the detour. What a wonderful improvement! I used to travel that way every week when I worked in Grove City a long, long time ago (1954) and several years ago when my son lived in Butler and was managing a local restaurant. I was always favorably impressed with Butler and still am. Certainly it is not the same that it was 52 years ago or even 20 years ago but then neither am I. It appears to retain something of a viable business district and isn't that movie theatre operating? Certainly there are problems, many of which have been discussed on this forum.

Maybe the hot dog shop is gone, and yes I've enjoyed them on occasion but Butler still seems to be a nice town. There is some outstanding old architecture. Pardon me if I suggest keeping a positive attitude toward your town and doing something constructive to maintain it. There are many worse places to live.
