Celebrating caregivers an important effort

In a world where we see so much conflict and friction, I want to publicly acknowledge those who are doing great things. We recently held our annual “Caring for the Caregivers” Support Group celebration. It was a time to pamper and care for those that selflessly care for others.

This celebration would not have been possible without the hard work of Michelle Lesniak, library director for the South Butler Community Library in Saxonburg. She not only provides a warm and inviting space to our group each month, but she goes above and beyond to provide a beautiful meal for this annual gathering. I want to also thank Joann Lindstrom, with Touch of Health Massage. She provided a much needed massage to caregivers and also a beautiful space for others to share their story. And the evening was full of music, as Troy Lindsey shared his talent on the guitar. His music was healing and therapeutic for the soul.

Being a dementia family caregiver is not for the weak of heart. These are individuals that are strong, determined and authentic. It was a pleasure to honor them that evening and continue to walk alongside them throughout their journey. If you have a family member or friend with cognitive impairment, please feel free to join us the second Thursday of each month at the South Butler Community Library, from 6 to 7 p.m.
