MIDDLESEX TWP — A four-car accident Tuesday afternoon closed both lanes of Route 8 North and reduced both ways to one-way traffic just south of the interchange with Route 228.

The accident, which volunteer firefighters said was related to the lane closures at the interchange, was caused when three cars and one pickup truck were involved in a series of rear-end collisions around 3:40 p.m.

Two vehicles drove away from the accident, firefighters said. The other two were stuck in the turning lane, causing the shutdown. There were no injuries reported.
