Indspec upgrading facility while idle
PETROLIA — Chemical maker Indspec continues work on capital projects with about 75 employees, while the rest of its workers wait to be recalled to the plant.
The company, which has about 260 employees at its Petrolia facility, idled the plant in mid-March because of the recession.
Dave Dorko, plant manager, said Friday workers have been upgrading the plant's infrastructure, such as new pipes and electrical service.
Another 13 employees are expected to be recalled to work starting Monday to restart the plant's specialty resins unit, sales of which have been improving.
There is no timeline for bringing the entire plant back online, Dorko said.
"It's a matter of waiting for sales to come back to the point at which inventory begins to go down, and waiting for signs that the economy is starting to rebound," he said.
When the plant idled, some workers decided to retire, so the number eventually recalled is not known at this time, Dorko said.
