ADAMS TWP — No bills were damaged, but an electric money counter started smoking after a power surge caused the First Commonwealth Bank to be evacuated Wednesday.

Adams Area Fire District Assistant Chief Tim Llewellyn said units were dispatched to the bank on Crider Road after employees reported a smell of smoke inside. A firefighter discovered that the smoke and burning smell was coming from the money counter inside the vault room. Though it had not been used in a while, it was still plugged in.

After using fans to clear the smoke, firefighters cleared the scene.
