The “In the Pink Walk” is part of an annual Healthfest held at Slippery Rock University. This year's walk, on Oct. 18, is held to help raise awareness about breast cancer. Registration is not necessary.

As part of its annual Healthfest on Oct. 18, Slippery Rock University’s office of campus recreation will host an “In the Pink Walk” in hopes of raising breast cancer awareness.

Participants will leave from the Aebersold Student Recreation Center at 12:30 p.m. and walk for about a mile around campus before returning to the center, where they can visit about 60 vendors from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Healthfest, which is free. There also will be a breast cancer awareness booth, where people can play “bra pong” and pick up informational packets.

People do not need to register for the In the Pink Walk or the Healthfest, and instead are encouraged to show up, dressed in pink.

Typically, 50 people take part in the walk, according to Karen Perry, associate director of SRU campus recreation. If the weather is inclement, the walk can be moved to the indoor track.

“It’s about promoting awareness and creating an atmosphere of support for people,” Perry said.
