HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s state higher education system has reached a tentative three-year deal with the union that represents about 700 student services workers at Slippery Rock and 13 other state universities.

Negotiators for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education announced the deal with the State College and University Professional Association on Monday.

The union includes workers in admissions, financial aid, residence life, career services and the registrar’s office.

A state system spokesman says the union has been working under a one-year contract extension that expired on June 30.

Contract details weren’t immediately available. Union members must still approve it.

Negotiations are scheduled to resume next week with the union that represents 5,500 faculty members and coaches.

They’ve set an Oct. 19 strike date, and also plan to rally Oct. 6 at Dixon University Center in Harrisburg, where the State System’s Board of Governors is scheduled to meet. A union spokesman says the rally will include faculty members from all 14 state system campuses.
