SLIPPERY ROCK — A Slippery Rock Township man faces felony and misdemeanor drug charges after being pulled over last week with more than 2 ounces of suspected marijuana.

State police said they stopped 21-year-old Jacob T. Barnes about 7 p.m. Dec. 10 after he failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign at Center Street and Normal Avenue in Slippery Rock Township.

He allowed troopers to search his car. In the trunk, according to court documents, police found a Ziploc bag containing marijuana.

The suspected marijuana weighed 62 grams, or nearly 2.2 ounces, which elevated the charges against him to felony possession with intent to deliver the drug.

In Pennsylvania, a small amount of marijuana is defined as being no more than 30 grams, or a little more than an ounce. More than 30 grams can be a misdemeanor or a felony.

Barnes was arraigned before District Judge William Fullerton on felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia, which is also a misdemeanor.

Police also cited him for the stop sign violation.

He was released on $5,000 unsecured bail pending a preliminary hearing set Jan. 31.
