LaVerne R. "Verne" Folk, 78, of Butler died Tuesday morning at the Sugar Creek Rest, Worthington.

Born Feb. 9, 1929, in Ridgway, Elk County, he was a son of Rolland E. and Aramella E. O'Hearn Folk.

He attended an electronics technical school in Michigan and had worked for the Basic Computer Co. in Pittsburgh. Prior to that, he was a self-employed electronic and technical equipment repairman for several Pittsburgh area hospitals.

Mr. Folk was a collector of antique radios and was member of the Antique Wireless Association of Antique Radio Repairs and Restoration and the New England Antique Radio Club.

During World War II, he served with the Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Alice M. Dobransky Folk, whom he married in March 1973; two sons, Ralph Folk of Tionesta and Jeffrey Folk of Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Sintz of Butler and Mrs. Bruce (Suella) Turek of Florida; a stepdaughter, Mrs. William (Chris) Bailey of New Hampshire; 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Anna Mae Snyder of Butler, Patricia L. Birckbichler of South Carolina and Kathleen M. Doctor of Kittanning; a brother, James E. Folk of Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Plunkard Folk, and a son, LaVerne Robert Folk.
