Towberman

Dorothy Anne Towberman, 88, of Charlottesville, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday.

She is remembered for her ever-present gentle and kind spirit and for the commitment and dedication she gave as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

She was born Aug. 5, 1918, in Washington, D.C., to the late Joseph and Edith Sanders.

She married Alden J. Towberman in 1938, and was widowed in 1978.

She is survived by two loving sons and their wives, Dr. Thomas J. Towberman and his wife, Wanda, of Charlottesville and the Rev. Dr. Alden W. Towberman and his wife, Sandy, of Butler, three grandchildren, the Rev. Tiffany Towberman of Sterling, Va., and Dana Gaskin and David Towberman, both of Richmond, Va.; and four great-grandchildren.

She lived in Arlington, Va., where she was a legal secretary at the firm of Morris, Kix, Miller and Barr and the U.S. Army War College in Washington, D.C. She stopped her employment to raise her two sons and later went back to work for 20 years in the advertising department at the Washington Post from 1971 to 1991. Her years at the Washington Post were very memorable and rewarding to her.

Her church was the Luther Place Memorial Church in Washington, D.C., where she was a loyal member for almost 70 years.
